Austin

Established in 1839, Austin is named for the founder of Anglo-American Texas, Stephen F. Austin, and is the capitol of Texas. Like most other cities, Austin usually had at least one brewery until the late 1870s, when beer from St. Louis and Milwaukee began to arrive in refrigerated rail cars. One last interest historical footnote: William Haas, one of Chicago's pioneer brewers, sold his Chicago brewery in 1839 and moved to Austin. Could he have opened a brewery here?
